Best things to do near Lake Lavon

One of the best parts of staying at Desert Creek is how close you are to Lake Lavon — roughly 20 minutes from your site. It's a 21,000-acre reservoir with plenty to do whether you've got a fishing rod, a kayak, or just a folding chair and a good book.

On the water

Lavon is a favorite for largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie, with several public ramps for launching a boat or kayak. If you don't have your own, a few nearby outfitters rent paddle craft by the hour.

Trails and parks

The Trinity Trail runs for miles along the shoreline — great for an early-morning walk or bike ride before the Texas heat sets in. Several day-use parks around the lake have shaded picnic areas and swimming spots.

The lake is close enough for a spur-of-the-moment afternoon and far enough to feel like a getaway.
